Olympians conduct softball seminar in Malaysia prior to opening of continental congress

KUALA LUMPUR (MAS) – WBSC Board Member, Softball Confederation of Asia (SCA) 1st Vice President and Japan Softball legend Taeko Utsugi, together with two Olympians, Mariko Masubuchi (2000 Sydney Olympics) and Sachiko Ito (2008 Biejing Olympics), conducted a Softball seminar for more than 60 softball athletes (male & female) and coaches (male & female) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Batting, Throwing, Catching and Pitching skills were demonstrated on the field and discussed in an indoor arena.

The instructors also distributed softball equipment and resources to those who attended the course.

In 2012, the Malaysian Ministry of Education and Softball Association of Malaysia (SAM) initiated a Level 1 certification course for school teachers. Later that year, SAM and National Sports Council partnered to begin a Level 1 certification course for coaches.

SCA BIENNIAL CONGRESS HELD

Following the seminar, the SCA held its Biennial Congress, hosted by the Softball Association of Malaysia in collaboration with SCA, with 14 of the 15 SCA members represented.

Upon conclusion of the Congress, the SCA announced the 2017 and 2018 calendar of events.

* (qualifier for 3 teams plus host Japan to the WBSC Women Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan in 2018 and also for 4 teams plus host Indonesia to the Asian Games Jakarta 2018)
