FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

25 June 2013

The World Baseball Softball Confederation is pleased the women's political caucus has chosen our sport, Softball, to help the Young Survival Coalition, through the 5th Congressional Women’s Softball Game.  Softball is the perfect game for convening to all ages and political persuasions in support for the fight against Cancer. The WBSC is dedicating its support and gold medal winning efforts to this game on Wednesday, June 26, for such a worthy cause.

Girls active in sports during adolescence and young adulthood are 20% less likely to get breast cancer later in life. Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and confidence.

Softball, as a team sport, offers many opportunities for girls and women, both in and outside of sport.  The newly formed WBSC believe in a “Sport for All” philosophy – that everybody everywhere can play, regardless of skill, age, background, and gender.

Women’s Softball offers young athletes a sports path from grass roots to elite level play with over 30 million participants worldwide, and the majority of them are girls/women.

In 76 days, WBSC will go before the full International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session to present its case for Olympic reinstatement for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games. Softball and baseball were dropped from the Olympic Programme after the 2008 Olympic Games.

The merging of two global, highly developed sports disciplines with millions of participants and fans offers unique opportunity and historic chance for renewed Olympic hope for literally millions of young athletes around the world.

Please join and support the WBSC as they seek to make the world a better place in their quest to regain their position on the Olympic Programme for 2020.
