The Mannheim Tornados have won their 11th softball championship following their victory at the 2016 German Softball National Championship.
They had to overcome a 0-2 deficit in the best-of-five final series against the Neunkirchen Nightmares. The Nightmares were two outs away of a three-game sweep, but a muffed throw at first base allowed Mannheim to win game three 4-3.
Mannheim’s Lori Spingola then pitched the Tornados to a 1-0 shutout in game four to tie the series.
In the decisive fifth game four runs in the second laid the groundwork en route to an 8-3 victory.
For Mannheim it’s their first title since 2011 and 11th overall.
