EU funded Softball Youth Exchange programme kicks off in Croatia

ZAGREB (Croatia) – A European Union funded youth “Sports Xchange” programme between the Czech Republic and Croatia kicked off in Zagreb today.

The nine-day programme brings 30 13-18-year-old girls and boys from each nation together to raise awareness of a healthy lifestyle among young people based on active participation in sports and volunteering in sports organizations.

Workshops will be held on topics including improving softball and teamwork skills, ignoring bias and prejudice, and gaining respect for others and their opinions. One of the goals is also to try out and learn various forms of creative expression.

This project will also provide an opportunity for the young athletes to extensively use a foreign language, so they can learn more about people from other cultures, as well as about themselves.

This Sports Xchange project is fully funded by EU money thanks to the Erasmus+ program: Key Action 1: Learning mobility of individuals Youth Xchange videos.

The EU has recently funded another softball development project. The Għajnsielem Redcoats, a Malta sports club established in 2012, secured a grant worth over €58,000 (US $62,300) also through Erasmus+ Sports programme for a project aimed to improve gender equality in sport, especially softball.
